Womenswear Autumn//Winter 2011 Expert Review

As in the men's collections there's a lot of grey and black; nice. There's not as much sailor inspirations as I expected and not enough red either. A very nice surprise was to see that much of white (always paired with black, luckily) on the runways. I have to say that the "Sargent Pepper" Burberry collection was very nice indeed, Jasson Wu's was the most elegant surprise, Carolina Herrera is as Chic as one designer can be, DKNY was my personal fav and, Michael Kors deserves the medal of honor; the runway was on fire!

The runways aren't over yet so later I'll post a second part.

Menswear Autumn//Winter 2011 Expert Review

After an extensive review of the fall '11 menswear runways, I've found - with not a bit of surprise- that most of them are so utterly disappointing. I've never knew what the designers are thinking when they design the menswear collections, but certainly not in the average (fashion) guy, but, a) some extravagant queer or, b) some boring rich 40+ man with Lotz of money but no taste at all. I know that men buy clothes instead of fashion, I know that it's hard to be original and creative within the range of blazers and trousers, but every label I look I only found that, if propositive, a flamingo extravaganza; if classic, a squared and boring suit with slightly different collar. I, as a man, expect to see some rude yet comfortable clothes with some vintage and antique uniform revival or even grunge reinterpretation at a modern level. Some trusty and classic pieces that could be mixed and matched with radical styles. That's what we want to see, that's what men wears on the streets (not Wall street, of course) that's what we can see on the blogs. So it's ok if you (designers) want to make an extravagant marketing plan to support other lines of your labels by making a lot of noise in mens runways, but as Coco said: "fashion that doesn't hit the street, isn't fashion". This is my personal complain and it's up to you designers (not marketing idiots). Finally, I'm posting a few nice outfits by some nice labels in this season. Let's say everything is not lost.
Style Notes:
1) Fortunately, Black leather boots are here to stay, yay! I barely can take off mines!!
2)Actually I can't say "Black is Back", 'cause it never ever have been gone. Kudos for me!
3)Red is the new red. Just love that suit of Victor & Rolf! (and wait to see women's collections!)
4) Look for John Varvatos and Bottega Veneta if you want to learn a cool and modern way to wear a suit.
5)Don't you just love overcoats for winter? look that one from Ferragamo! It's a statement by itself!
6)Grey is one of the most elegant and stylish colors ever. Simple, rocker leather jacket. What else? (thanx Bally and Gucci!)
7)Ann Demeulemeester. That's what I call creativity, reinterpretation and understanding of a man's wardrobe. I just love that runway. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
That's all about it pals, Dex out.

a Mod? a Rocker?

Get to know.

Reason 4 Fashion

The deeper you get in the fashion industry, the more you notice how huge the passion is on it. It's so big that everyone involved is so focused in their creative objectives that they stop perceiving the world that happens outside them, and how people who doesn't share our fashion enthusiasm, reacts; maybe because it will be wasting time. But even the entire world lives on it, consciously or not, there are a lot of "fashion snobs" that complains, criticize and look wrong so hard this "frivolous" and "superficial" world than only encourages vanity, greed and the cult to the self. We have to recognize that there's indeed some of this, but, for those who live in the fashion industry with conviction and understanding (like me); fashion represents something really great. Greater than a name, a brand or a life. Speaking in the words of a legend, Coco said:

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."

And she was talking of really powerful ideas. Ideas that represent all the ideal potential of a human being, the necessity of constant innovation, the ability of changing our surroundings to pump on them some meaning and reasons to belong, the power of make things go further than just fulfill a function, but fulfill emotional needs so hard to explain like a closet with hundreds of shoes. I'm talking just of some of these ideas that comes to my mind at the moment, but key to stand my posture: (fashion) It's about evolution, survival, improvement. I'm talking of the future we are building like humanity.

There are, fortunately, scientists fighting for improve our technology, artists and philosophers fighting for feeding our souls and designers fighting for a better living. But, How fashion affects daily life?

I'm not gonna answer it with the obvious necessity of get dressed. I'll better point the keyword of the previous examples: Effort. It's what it's all about, the effort of breaking the common, the effort of maximum aesthetic functionality, the effort for perfect shapes, effort for the greatest meaning of quality and, above all, the effort of not being stuck in mediocrity and conformism of "Why to change, if it's ok like it is?". Will the world keep turning if everyone thinks like this? It's enough by saying that if you put to work these points to any field of work in life you will have in return the innovation, excellence and growth. I'm talking about personal growth, about knowing that always can be better and live for it, to ask for it. I'm talking about taking the responsibility that humans have with it's own existence; recognizing how special we are and the potential we have, exploiting it always, like paying for being so privileged, so unique in the universe. So take a few more minutes each morning to think about your qay to be the best you possible, and get dress according to it.
